Brittany West

Brittany joined IJRC in 2016 as a staff attorney. She received her J.D. from American University Washington College of Law and her B.A. in Asian studies from Furman University.

Prior to joining IJRC, Brittany worked with Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights where she focused on advocacy before regional human rights bodies in Africa, primarily regarding violations of the rights to freedom of expression, freedom of association, and freedom of assembly. As a student attorney in the International Human Rights Law Clinic, Brittany represented clients seeking asylum based on domestic violence and gender based claims and partnered with human rights organizations to address the abuse of refugees in Kenya and human rights abuses committed by tobacco companies. As a staff writer for the Human Rights Brief, she covered the decisions and activities of regional courts and human rights bodies. Brittany also worked with International Rights Advocates, the Local Human Rights Lawyering Project, the Centre for Human Rights at the University of Pretoria, and the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Speak Truth to Power program.

Brittany is admitted to practice law in the state of Maryland.
