The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights published its schedule of hearings for its 138th Period of Session. The hearings will take place at the Commission’s headquarters in Washington, DC from March 19 to 23. The hearings are open to the public. Webcasts and/or audio will also be available for most hearings.
As usual, the Commission will hold a mix of thematic hearings and hearings on individual cases, covering a diverse range of issues. There will be five hearings each on topics related to Colombia and Mexico, while there will be several hearings related to Guatemala, Peru and Venezuela, as well as hearings on the current conditions in Haiti and Honduras. The thematic and case-focused hearings are an integral part of the Commission’s main responsibilities of monitoring human rights conditions in the hemisphere and processing individual complaints. The Commission’s annual activity reports, published cases, and thematic reports are available on its website.
