Gabor Rona is a founding member of the IJRC Board of Directors and the current Board Chair. He is Visiting Professor of Law at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, where he teaches international humanitarian law and international human rights law. Previously, Gabor was International Legal Director at Human Rights First, where he coordinated litigation, advised HRF programs on international human rights and humanitarian law and represented HRF with governments, the media and the public.
Gabor has served as the interim head of Protection of Civilians, Policy Development and Studies Branch, UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and also as Legal Advisor, Legal Division of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
He is a current member of the United Nations Working Group on the Use of Mercenaries, a body of experts mandated by the UN Human Rights Council to monitor, report on, and study the development of new standards related to the human rights implications of the use of private military and security companies.
Gabor has taught humanitarian law, human rights law and international criminal law at a number of institutions in Europe and the U.S.
