Indictment Withdrawn: 14 August 2002
Léonidas Rusatira, a former Colonel in the Rwanda Armed Forces and the former Commander of the Ecole Supérieure Militaire, was indicted for his alleged role in widespread killings in and around Kigali. The prosecution charged Rusatira with direct and superior responsibility for genocide, complicity in genocide, murder as a crime against humanity, extermination as a crime against humanity, and war crimes for acts of violence to life.
In 2002, the prosecution withdrew the indictment after new evidence emerged through investigation.
